Cats have always been my companions, my teachers, and my mirrors. But my real turning point into holistic feline care started with one cat: Jolie. She changed everything for me and opened my eyes to how much more there is to supporting our cats beyond what most vets offer.
What Holistic Wellness Really Means
Holistic wellness isn’t just about using natural remedies. It’s about seeing the whole picture: mind, body, and spirit. It’s about recognizing that our cats aren’t a collection of symptoms to manage, but complete beings who experience emotional and energetic imbalances just like we do. It’s about getting curious and asking why instead of simply reacting to what.
That deeper look, that search for root causes, is what started me down this path. I learned that there’s always something that can be done—and often, it’s not what you’d expect. Every symptom is a message, and if we’re willing to listen, it opens the door to healing in a whole new way.
Jolie’s Wake-Up Call: When the Old Way Didn’t Work
Jolie had hyperthyroidism, and I did what most people do, I followed my vet’s instructions. But the prescription meds made her sick, and the prescription food made her vomit constantly. She was getting worse. Her bloodwork kept showing her thyroid values climbing. One day, my vet told me there was nothing else he could do. His only recommendation was euthanasia.
But she wasn’t ready. She still played, cuddled, purred. She was happy—she just didn’t feel good. That didn’t sit right with me, because let’s be honest—I wasn’t ready either. I started digging into alternative options. I changed her diet, started working with a homeopathic veterinarian, and found supportive remedies and healing therapies like massage and energy healing. I started to notice small changes. Those small shifts gave me hope and she went on to live another five years after I was told she should be euthanized. That journey taught me how powerful nutrition and physical wellness can be when we stop treating symptoms and start supporting the whole being.
Energy Matters: What My Cats Were Showing Me
That experience cracked something open in me, and as I explored energy healing for myself, a new layer revealed itself. On the days I felt peaceful, my cats were so chill. On the days I was stressed or overwhelmed, they’d act out. It wasn’t a coincidence. I could feel how much they were picking up on my energy.
I’ve always believed cats are deeply aware and emotionally in tune. Even when I was little, I could see it in their eyes. But now, it was undeniable. They weren’t just reacting, they were responding to what I was holding emotionally and energetically.
Noodle’s Story: Stress Has a Ripple Effect
One of the clearest examples of this was my cat Noodle. She was overgrooming to the point of missing patches of fur. Her skin was red and irritated. She had to wear little pants to stop her from licking herself until she bled. I went to two different vets and had several tests done, but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I thought she had allergies or a skin issue. This was 2020, the height of the pandemic, and I was working 15-hour days at my corporate job. I wasn’t sleeping well, I wasn’t moving my body, and my own autoimmune symptoms were flaring.
It wasn’t until I started really focusing on my own healing—body, mind, and spirit—that Noodle started to shift. Her fur grew back. She stopped overgrooming. She wanted to be near me again. That’s when it really clicked. My stress was creating imbalance in her. She needed me to be well so she could feel safe and grounded too.
That experience brought me back to the importance of energy work—not just as a tool, but as a way of life. When the emotional and spiritual are out of balance, the physical eventually suffers. And it’s not just true for us—it’s true for our cats, too.
Muffin’s Story: When the Litter Box Isn’t the Problem
A client of mine, Muffin, stopped using her litter box out of nowhere. Her guardian had tried everything like new litter boxes, different kinds of litter, moving things around but nothing worked.
When I tuned in with Muffin through animal communication, I saw what was going on. Her new cat sister was ambushing her. She didn’t feel safe using the box. Her guardian had no idea. We talked about it, and I walked her through a short visualization exercise. She imagined Muffin using the box again and feeling safe in the home. After that, Muffin went back to using the litter box. It wasn’t about the litter at all. It was about understanding what was really going on emotionally and energetically.
Seeing Cats for Who They Really Are
This is why I talk about cats as sentient beings. They’re not just little companions—they’re aware, intuitive, emotionally rich individuals. Cats have their own preferences, personalities, and needs. They’re not here for our entertainment, and they’re not property. They’re partners.
When we stop trying to humanize them and instead get curious about who they really are, we show up differently. We listen more. We support them in ways that go deeper than surface-level symptoms. We form real relationships.
This is what I want to share more of—stories, insights, and the kind of cat care that honors their whole being. If you’re here, you probably feel that way about your cats too.

Spot-on :))). Great post.
Good evening Melissa. I did some major moving today but I think Tails did ok. He went under the bed for a while when I was making too much noise for him but he came out and had treats and then dinner and now he is falling asleep in his new scratchy bed box. I was pretty sure he would like it's gentle containment and he does. He also loves scratching in it. He is so easy I sometimes feel guilty. I did move his litter box so I hope he does ok with that. It has been by the head of my bed for months because that's where it fit best. I am hoping he will now appreciate the added privacy of a corner of the newly empty closet. He is usually very snuggly but he is very private about his business in the litter box. Hoping you had a good Sunday.
